HOWL Trail 2027
HOWL Trail 2027 is a trail running event held on 29 May 2027 that uses the final sections of the Heart of Wales Line route between Llanelli, Powys and Craven Arms, Shropshire. The route forms part of a 141 mile long-distance walking and running trail that is way-marked with roundels, finger posts and signs using a viaduct logo.
Three race distances are offered:
- 50 miles (start Llandrindod Wells)
- 26 miles (start Knucklas)
- 16 miles (start Bucknell)
The finish for all distances is at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, School Road, Craven Arms, SY7 9RS. Parking at the Discovery Centre is subject to a £5 charge that is donated to the centre. Registration and baggage drop locations are provided for each distance; baggage is transported from the registration point to the finish after a competitor has started.
Checkpoint arrangements differ by course: the 50 mile course has two manned checkpoints (Llanbister Rd railway halt at 15 miles and Bucknell Primary School at 19 miles), the 26 mile course has one manned checkpoint at Bucknell (8 miles), and the 16 mile course has no manned checkpoints between Bucknell and Craven Arms.
Age limits and entry fees are specified per course. The Heart of Wales Line train serves start locations and some starts are a short walk from their stations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
