Houtzdale Days 5K Run/Walk and Fireman's Challenge

The Houtzdale Days 5K Run/Walk and Fireman's Challenge is an annual event held during the Houtzdale Days celebration on August 1, 2026 in Houtzdale, Pennsylvania. The event is based at the Houtzdale-Ramey Fire Company, 601 Good Street, and features two entries: a 5K Run/Walk and a 5K Fireman's Challenge.

Base registration fees listed for the event are $25 for the 5K Run/Walk and $20 for the Fireman's Challenge. All proceeds are directed to the Houtzdale Fire Company. The event offers a referral option that can result in a refunded fee when six people register with a referral code, and a multi-signup option that reduces the per-person fee for groups of ten or more.

The course follows the 2023 revised route and measures about 3.3 miles, slightly longer than the standard 3.1 miles. The Fireman's Challenge uses the same course and requires participants to wear or carry turnout gear for the entire race; turnout gear includes boots, hat, pants, and coat and may not be carried in a bag. Insulation is not required. The first Fireman's Challenge finisher receives a plaque and a $250 donation designated to a fire company or EMS of their choice. The Fireman's Challenge may be modified or discontinued for safety if weather conditions are unfavorable; that decision is at the discretion of the Race Director.

Awards include medals for first through third place male and female in each category, overall top male and female, and top three male and female in age groups including under 9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70 plus. Shirts are guaranteed only for registrations received by July 17, and registrants who register three weeks in advance receive a personalized bib. The event provides live text and email results and free finish line photos. Parking is permitted on most streets with specific restrictions noted on the event map.
