Houtzdale Days Annual 5K Run/Walk and Fireman's Challenge
The event takes place on Saturday, August 1, 2026, in Houtzdale, PA at 601 Good Street. It includes two race categories: a 5K Run/Walk and a 5K Fireman's Challenge. Registration fees are $25 for the Run/Walk and $20 for the Fireman's Challenge. All proceeds go directly to the Houtzdale Fire Company. Registration opens June 1, 2026. Shirts are only guaranteed for registrations received by July 17.
Course, awards and rules
Organizers will use the 2023 revised course, which is slightly longer than the standard distance at approximately 3.3 miles. Medals are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for Male and Female in each category; medals will be given after all racers have crossed the finish line. The Fireman's Challenge follows the same course but requires participants to wear or carry turnout gear for the entire race. Turnout gear includes boots, hat, pants, and coat; insulation is not required and gear may not be carried in a bag. The first person to finish the Fireman's Challenge will win $250 for the Fire Company or EMS of their choice. The Fireman's Challenge may be modified or discontinued for unfavorable weather at the discretion of the Race Director. A course video is available on the event Facebook page.
