Hotcake Hustle - 5K run
The Hotcake Hustle is a community 5K run and walk held at the Comstock Community Center with an out-and-back course on the KRV Trail. Registered participants receive a pancake and sausage breakfast on site after the race; additional breakfasts are available for a minimum $5 donation.
Timing for in-person participants uses chip timing so each individual time begins when the runner crosses the start line and ends at the finish. The event provides a waterfall start for in-person runners. Custom finisher medals are awarded to all participants, with custom colors for the top two finishers in each age group. Trophies are awarded to the overall male and female winners. This year the medals also celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The event is sponsored by the Kalamazoo Sunrise Kiwanis. The organizing club has supported local projects and youth programs for over thirty years, and registration fees are used to support similar community programs. A raffle accompanies the event; raffle tickets cost $20 and prizes include cash awards with a top prize of $1,000, a second prize of $500, additional cash prizes, and several smaller drawings.
Age categories are male and female 12 and under, 13-16, 17-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 and over. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
