HOT dam Races

The HOT dam Races is an annual road event established in 1988. The 38th edition is scheduled for August 8, 2026, at Canyon Lakes, located at 22nd and MLK Jr. Blvd., Lubbock, TX. Additional parking is available on the north side of Dunbar Lake.

Distances offered:

  • 2 mile Run/Walk
  • 5 mile Run

Entry fees are stated as $8 for West Texas Running Club members and for children aged 7–12 in the 2 mile event, and $20 for non members for both distances. Registration opens July 4, and there is no race day registration and no refunds. The 5 mile course is USATF certified (certificate number TX13139ETM). This is a no t-shirt race.

Age rules specify a minimum of 7 years for the 2 mile run/walk and 13 years for the 5 mile run. Strollers are allowed only in the 2 mile event and require an accompanying participant aged 18 or older.

The event maintains historical race results and participant totals for past years; recent finish counts include 260 finishers in 2025 and 253 in 2024. Media and past race records have been documented for multiple years. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
