Hoot Lake Triathlon: 30th Anniversary

The YMCA of the Northern Sky hosts the Hoot Lake Triathlon on July 26, 2026 at Hoot Lake Public Access at Godel Park in Fergus Falls, MN. The event includes a Sprint Triathlon and a Sprint Team Relay and is organized to support the YMCA LIVESTRONG program in Fergus Falls.

Packet pickup is available on July 25 at the Fergus Falls YMCA and also on race day before the event. Registration is offered in tiers: early (February 9–March 31), regular (April 1–July 5) and late (July 5–July 25). Late registrants will not receive a race shirt; participants must be registered by July 5 to receive a shirt.

Course and location details:

  • Swim: 1/4 mile open water swim in Hoot Lake
  • Bike: 15.7 mile course, all right-hand turns, limited traffic control
  • Run: 3.3 miles

Race requirements state that all participants will be marked with race numbers and swimmers must wear swim caps provided by the YMCA. Wet suits are allowed, lifejackets are permitted, and cyclists must wear certified hard-shelled helmets and follow Minnesota traffic laws; drafting on the bike course is prohibited.

Awards are given to the overall top three finishers in Men, Women, Men’s Relay, Women’s Relay and Coed Relay, plus top finishers in age divisions beginning at 16–20 and continuing by decade up to 71 and over. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
