Honest Abe Trail Run Marathon / 14K / 5K
The event takes place at Lincoln State Park in Lincoln City (Spencer County), Indiana. The start and finish area is near the Lincoln Amphitheatre inside the park.
Participants can choose from three distances:
- Marathon
- 14K
- 5K
All three distances start at the same time on a Sunday in September. The marathon and 14K use a primary loop course that encircles the park. The marathon consists of three loops, while the 14K is one loop. The 5K course uses paved and gravel roads. The trail sections are primarily double-track trails with some gravel and a few road crossings.
There is a time limit for all events. The official end time is 7 hours after the start. Marathon runners must begin their third loop before the 5-hour mark or will not be allowed to continue.
Two aid stations are available on the loop course, at the start/finish and at the midpoint. They provide water, Gatorade, bananas, and snacks. There is no aid station on the 5K route. Runners are encouraged to carry refillable bottles. Marathon participants may use a drop bag, which will be available at specific points on the loop.
Awards are given to the top two male and female finishers in each race. Marathon finishers receive a small memento. Parking is available at the Lincoln Amphitheatre lot. The park entry fee applies per vehicle. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
