Homestake Trail Volksmarch

The Homestake Trail Volksmarch is a community hike organized by the Deadwood Main Street initiative to mark the 150th anniversaries of Lead and Deadwood. The route follows the Homestake Trail for a 3.5 mile distance, beginning at the Lead Dog Park / Homestake Trailhead in Lead and ending at the Mickelson Trailhead in Deadwood. The event takes place from the Homestake Trailhead at 499 Mine Street, Lead, SD.

Organizers have arranged parking in both towns, including the Sherman Street Parking Lot in Deadwood and Gold Run Park and Manuel Brothers Park in Lead, with complimentary trolley service running between these parking locations and a designated drop-off and pick-up area near the trailhead. After the hike, a Chuckwagon Gathering in Deadwood City Park will include a dedication for a new trail system, a chuckwagon supper prepared by chuckwagon chefs, and live performances by cowboy singers. Later activities in Lead are part of the Crafts at the Cut Beer Festival and the Fall in Love with Lead celebration, featuring a classic car show, live music, local makers, food trucks, craft beer tastings, and additional community events. Refunds are available up to seven days before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
