HomeRun for Habitat 5K
HomeRun for Habitat is an annual community fundraising event in Southaven, Mississippi, held at Silo Square across from Snowden Grove Park. Over 18 years the event has attracted more than 10,000 participants and helped raise over $500,000 for the Hernando DeSoto Chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
Event components include:
- 5K Run/Walk - 3.1 Miles
- Kids Dash - 0.4 Miles
- Spirit Runner - 3.1 Miles
Registration for the main events opens August 13, 2026 and closes September 7, 2026; the listed registration fee for those events is $20.00.
The event aims to raise $60,000, an amount stated as sufficient to help build one home for a DeSoto County family. The local Habitat affiliate selects qualified families through an application process; future homeowners contribute sweat equity and commit to an affordable 20 year, zero interest mortgage. To date the affiliate has helped 32 families become homeowners, with 16 of those homes made possible through this event.
Race services and event amenities listed by the organizer include chip timing, a soft style T shirt, finisher medals for all runners, finisher medals for the Kids Dash, brick paver awards for top three in each age group, Fall Fest activities such as inflatables and arts and crafts, food and drink from local restaurants, pre race and post race music, a DeSoto County school competition, and professional event management by Best Times.
