5K Home Run supporting Family Promise of Lawrence
The event is a community 5K held at South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St, in downtown Lawrence on May 25. It offers both an in-person race at South Park and a virtual option that allows participants to complete the 5K anytime between May 19 and May 25. The event accepts participants of all ages and abilities, including walkers, children in strollers, and dogs on a leash.
Awards are given to overall and masters male and female finishers, and to winners in the 5 to 12 and 13 to 18 age groups. The largest youth team and the top individual fundraiser also receive prizes. Registered participants who sign up by May 1 are guaranteed a T-shirt; T-shirts are not guaranteed for those who register later.
Registration fees are listed as $30 per person, with a reduced rate of $25 per person for teams of four or more; the day-of registration fee is $35. Packet pick-up is available prior to the race at Fleet Feet in Lawrence. Volunteers are needed on race day. Kindred CPA and Vintage Church are the event title sponsors.
Proceeds support local families experiencing a housing crisis through Family Promise of Lawrence. In 2025 that organization assisted 269 families in Douglas County, including 571 children under 18. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
