Home for Freedom Marathon
The event takes place in mid-October in Wichita Falls, Texas, with the start and finish area at Lake Wichita Park just past the veterans' memorial. Packet pickup and a pre-race spaghetti dinner are scheduled on the two days before the race at local venues including American Legion Thomas Fowler Post 169 and CycleRun.
Race distances offered:
- Full Marathon (26.2 miles)
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
- 5K Fun Run/Walk (3.1 miles)
- Virtual option with shipped t-shirt and finisher medal
The pre-race spaghetti dinner is included for registered participants; additional meal tickets are available for purchase, Adults $10 and Children 10 and under $5. Meal tickets include one spaghetti dinner, salad, dessert, and a drink. All race packets must be picked up on the two scheduled pickup days; there is no race day packet pickup and packets will not be mailed. A representative may pick up a packet if they present a written authorization.
Awards include top three overall male and female, overall awards, and age group awards (top three in each age group). Participant t-shirt designs are to be announced and a finisher medal is planned. The event organizer, Home for Freedom, is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit that builds tiny homes for veterans; the group has completed a first tiny home and a second home was completed with an application period noted through September 30, 2026. Funding for one tiny home is stated at approximately $50,000 and the organizer is pursuing Boston Qualifying certification for the full marathon but certification is not yet guaranteed.
