Meanwood Holly Hustle
The Meanwood Holly Hustle is a forest trail race that starts at the Meanwood Institute in Leeds and follows local woodland paths and valley trails. The route passes through Meanwood Park, the Hollies, the Meanwood Valley Trail, and notable features such as the Seven Arches viaduct and Adel Crag. The course includes narrow and technical sections, one short marshalled private road section where runners are asked to keep to the pavement, and a mix of surfaces including grass, rocky ground, muddy trails and footpaths.
The distance is 10.5 km / 6.5 miles with approximately 200 m / 650 ft of elevation. The field is limited to 200 entries and the minimum age is 18. At this time of year the course is likely to be muddy, so participants are advised to wear appropriate footwear and avoid using headphones on the narrow or technical sections. Events are cupless: water is provided at refill stations but each runner must bring their own water container. A warm layer or jacket is recommended because it can be a long walk to the nearest road if assistance is needed.
Facilities at race headquarters include toilets, bag storage and a water station. All finishers receive complimentary soup. Optional extras may be available before the race, such as medals, t-shirts or a "Trees not Tees" donation to fund tree planting; extras are limited on the day.
