HogmanHoway 5K
The HogmanHoway 5K is an evening New Year’s Eve 5 kilometre run in Newcastle City Centre that starts and finishes at the Civic Centre. The event uses a closed-road, flat course that passes through city streets and festive lights and is chip-timed with results sent by text and published online.
Racing options include an elite 3-lap race with prizes for the top three men and women and a mass race open to all participants aged 11 and over. The organiser’s guidance suggests most runners complete the course in roughly 15 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes. A back marker will follow the final participants to ensure everyone crosses the finish.
An event hub at the Civic Centre provides baggage storage, toilets, refreshments and an indoor space for socialising as part of the New Year’s Eve celebrations. Every entrant receives a specially designed HogmanHoway 5K medal, a festive goody bag and a limited-edition event buff. Water is available at the finish.
Access to the event is possible by metro, with Haymarket, Monument and St James stations nearby. City centre car parks are available though some access may be restricted due to road closures for the run and evening celebrations. Road closures will be managed locally to reduce disruption while maintaining safety for participants and residents. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
