HogmanHoway 5K
The HogmanHoway 5K is a New Year’s Eve road running event in Newcastle city centre that starts and finishes at the Civic Centre. The event features a closed-road, flat city centre course that passes through illuminated streets and local landmarks. The standard distance is 5K with both a mass race open to participants aged 11 and over and a separate elite race run over multiple laps with prizes for top finishers.
Entries include a specially designed HogmanHoway 5K medal, a festive goody bag, and a limited-edition event buff. The race is chip-timed and provides baggage storage, toilets and refreshments at the event hub, which also offers an indoor space for socialising during the evening’s celebrations. Water is available at the finish.
Practical information published for entrants notes an entry fee, a small discount for UKA club members, a transfer window that closes in early December, and a postal race pack service for UK residents with overseas entrants collecting on the weekend. There are city centre car parks nearby and several metro stations within walking distance of the Civic Centre.
