HogmanHoway 5K
The HogmanHoway 5K is an evening city centre 5 kilometre run in Newcastle that takes place on New Year’s Eve. The course starts and finishes at the Civic Centre and uses closed roads through the city centre, passing festive lights and notable streets. The route is described as flat and fast and is designed for a range of participants.
Event facilities include an indoor event hub with baggage storage, toilets and refreshments. Every participant receives a specially designed medal, a finisher’s goody bag, a limited edition event buff and a celebratory drink option for those over 18. The race is chip timed and results are communicated to participants with full results published after the event.
The event is open to runners aged 11 and older. Entry information for 2026 is available and early bird pricing applies until 31st October. Standard entry details show a listed price of £20 and a £2 discount for registered UK Athletics club members at checkout. Race packs for UK residents are posted in advance; overseas entrants collect packs at Race Information on the event weekend.
Public transport access is available with nearby metro stations including Haymarket, Monument and St James. City centre car parks such as Civic Centre, Eldon Square and Claremont Road provide parking, though some access may be affected by road closures for the event and related evening fireworks.
