HogmanHoway 5K in Newcastle
The HogmanHoway 5K is an evening city centre running event on New Year’s Eve that starts and finishes at the Civic Centre in Newcastle. The course is a closed-road, flat route that passes through festive lights and city streets, and it is chip timed with results sent to participants and published after the event.
The mass race is open to anyone aged 11 and over. Entry options include early bird pricing until 31 October and a standard listed entry fee from £20, with a small discount for UK Athletics club members. Entries close at midnight on 28 December or earlier if sold out; there is no on-the-day entry. A transfer window is available until 3 December.
Event facilities include an indoor event hub with baggage storage, toilets and refreshments. Every entry includes a specially designed medal, a finisher’s goody bag, and a limited-edition event buff; participants over 18 are offered a celebratory mulled wine or a non-alcoholic alternative. Race packs are posted to UK entrants ahead of the event and collected from Race Information by those who need to pick up on the weekend.
The organiser operates rolling road closures across the city centre for the run. Public transport access is convenient via Haymarket, Monument and St James metro stations, and there are nearby city centre car parks such as Eldon Square and Claremont Road.
