HogmanHoway 5K
The HogmanHoway 5K is a night-time running event held on New Year's Eve in the centre of Newcastle. The race takes place on a flat, closed-road course that starts and finishes at the Civic Centre. The route passes through iconic city streets decorated with festive lights. Participants can choose between two different categories:
- 5 km (Elite Race) - A 3-lap course with prizes for the top three male and female finishers.
- 5 km (Mass Race) - A single-lap course open to everyone aged 11 and older.
The event site includes an indoor hub at the Civic Centre with baggage storage, toilets, and refreshments. Entrants receive a chip-timed result, a special edition medal, a finisher's goody bag, and a limited-edition event buff. The course is marshaled with clear signage at all junctions, and a back marker follows the final participant to ensure everyone completes the route.
The location is accessible via public transport, with the Haymarket, Monument, and St James Metro stations located within walking distance. Nearby car parking is also available at the Civic Centre, Eldon Square, and Claremont Road. Registration is open to club runners and those without an affiliation, with a discount provided for UKA club members. Race packs are typically sent via post to UK residents in the weeks leading up to the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
