Event Overview

The Hilly Chantilly 5K is a chip timed running event located in Charlotte, North Carolina. The race takes place in the historic Chantilly neighborhood, a residential area established in 1913 situated between Plaza Midwood and Elizabeth. The course utilizes tree-lined streets and avoids crossing any major thoroughfares.

Course Details

The route consists of a 5K (3.1 miles) loop that begins and ends within Chantilly Park at 222 Wyanoke Avenue. While the name suggests significant elevation, the course features gentle, rolling hills with a total elevation gain of approximately 115 feet.

The path follows a specific sequence of residential streets:

  • The race starts with an uphill section on Wyanoke Avenue before turning onto Bascom Street and Laburnum Avenue.
  • After turns onto Saint Julien Street and Bay Street, runners encounter a downhill segment.
  • The route continues through Hanover and Chesterfield Avenue, which serves as the longest uphill portion of the event.
  • A section on Shenandoah Avenue provides the longest and fastest downhill stretch.
  • The final stages include a winding path through the Lorna Loop, leading to Kingsbury Drive and returning to Bascom Street.
  • The race concludes with a downhill sprint back into Chantilly Park via Wyanoke Avenue.

Registration Information

Registration is open to the public with a set fee, and a discount is available for participants aged 12 and under.
