24th Highway One Companies 5k
The Highway One Companies 5k is a recurring road race held in Dewey Beach, Delaware. This event serves as the first installment of the Ten Sisters of Dewey Beach Road Race Series. The race is held in memory of Doug White and supports several local organizations, including the Dewey Beach Lifeguards, Sussex Consortium, and Area 41 Rotary Clubs.
Participants can choose from two main categories:
- 5k Run/Walk
- Competitive Walking 5k
The competitive walking category is strictly for athletes who intend to walk the entire distance; running or jogging is not permitted in this specific division. The event uses the MYLAPS BibTag Timing System to record participant times. Top finisher awards for overall and masters winners are determined by gun time, while age group awards are calculated using chip time.
Registered participants receive gender-specific tech shirts and other giveaway items. After the race, an event is held featuring food and beer for attendees aged 21 and over. Awards are presented to the top three finishers in five-year age groups ranging from 9 and under to 80 and over, as well as to the top three male and female walkers. Special awards are also given to the most patriotic participants and the largest beach house team.
The event starts at the Rusty Rudder on Dickinson Avenue. Limited paid parking is available at the venue, with additional free parking at meters and side streets until 10 am. Please note that dogs are not permitted at this event due to insurance requirements. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
