Event overview
The Highball to Thurmond Ultra & Relay is a point-to-point trail event on May 17, 2026, through New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia. The finish for all events is Thurmond, WV. Start locations include Montgomery, WV (50 Mile and 50 Mile Relay) and Hawks Nest State Park (50K). The race offers on-course train transport options from the finish back to the 50 Mile start area.

The 50 Mile course includes about 12 miles of paved road, mountain dirt roads, and trails, with roughly 5,000 feet of elevation gain. The 50K is a daylight, point-to-point trail with about 3,100 feet of elevation gain. Relay handoffs must occur at official aid stations and each team member must run at least one leg.

Registration items listed include a finisher medal, a custom 2026 hoodie, race photos, awards for top overall and age-group finishers, and well-stocked aid stations. Participants may add a train ticket. Refund and transfer rules: no refunds within 30 days of the event; requests earlier than 30 days may receive a 50% refund (processing fees excluded); entries cannot be deferred.
