Highball to Thurmond Ultra & Relay - May 17, 2026

The Highball to Thurmond Ultra & Relay is a point to point trail event through New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia. The course finishes in Thurmond and offers a train return to the 50 Mile start area in Montgomery. The event takes place on May 17, 2026, and includes on-site aid stations and chip timing.

Available race options include:

  • 50 Mile point to point from Montgomery to Thurmond.
  • 50K point to point starting at Hawks Nest State Park.
  • 50 Mile Relay for teams of 2 to 4 runners.
  • 50K Ruck, 50 Mile Pacer, Virtual 50 Mile, and Virtual 50K.

The 50 Mile course mixes paved road (about 12 miles), mountain dirt roads, and trails with roughly 5,000 feet of elevation gain. The 50K course follows marked Gorge trails with about 3,100 feet of climb. Official aid stations are placed along the routes and the course is waymarked.

Registration includes a finisher medal, a 2026 event sweatshirt, race photos, and post race food. Awards are available for top overall finishers, age groups, and relay teams for nominated event options. The finish in Thurmond is described as historic and offers on-site amenities and the option to purchase a train ticket back to Montgomery.
