Herscher Hare & Tortoise 5K Race & 2 Mile Fun Walk
The event on September 6, 2026 takes place near the Herscher High School football field at 555 N Elm St, Herscher, Illinois. Check in and the finish area are located by the football field south of the intersection of Illinois Route 115 and N Elm St.

Both the 5K and the 2 mile Fun Walk use Herscher streets. The course is flat and mostly shaded, and it will be marked with arrows. There will be traffic on the streets; police will provide traffic control at major intersections. Refreshments will be provided after the race and awards are presented at the football field.
Registration opens July 10, 2026. Entry for the 5K and the Fun Walk is $25 per person through September 5, 2026 and the same fee applies on race day. The Bunny Dash for children 7 and under is free and does not require registration. Kankakee Running Club members receive a $2 discount. Registrations received by August 24, 2026 are guaranteed a shirt; extras may be ordered but sizes are not guaranteed after that cutoff.
Awards and results note: the 5K awards male and female first through third in Overall and in age divisions from 14 and younger up through 75 and older. The Fun Walk awards the first ten finishers and walkers must walk only. A special finisher medal will be given to the first 150 finishers, runners or walkers. Computerized finish line results will be provided and results will be posted online. The event coincides with Herscher Labor Day activities; bib numbers may be used for select local discounts after the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
