Herscher Hare & Tortoise 5K Race & 2 Mile Fun Walk
The event is centered at the Herscher High School football field, just south of the intersection of Illinois Route 115 and N. Elm St. Check-in is held near the field and participants are asked to check in during the designated check-in window.
Both the 5K and the 2 mile Fun Walk take place on Herscher streets. The course is flat and mostly shaded, and the route will be marked with arrows on the streets. Participants should be watchful for traffic; police will provide traffic control at major intersections. Refreshments are provided after the race and awards are presented at the football field.

Entry fees differ by date: an early fee is listed through Aug. 31 and a higher fee applies on race day. Kankakee Running Club members receive a $2 discount. A Bunny Dash for children 7 and under takes place on the track immediately after the 5K and Fun Walk; no prior registration is required and prize bags are distributed. The 5K awards first, second and third place finishers overall and in multiple age divisions; the Fun Walk recognizes the first ten finishers and requires participants to walk only.
