Event details
The Helena Outdoor Triathlon (HOTri) is scheduled for Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Spring Meadow Lake State Park in Helena, MT 59602. The event program includes multiple race formats: Super Sprint Tri, Sprint Solo, Sprint Team, Olympic Solo triathlon, Olympic Team, Sprint Aquabike, Sprint Duathlon, a 5K Fun Run, and a virtual Tri/Du/Aquabike option. Registration opens January 1, 2026. Some team events are priced per complete team and some events have age minimums noted.
Course and logistics
The swim takes place in a spring-fed man-made lake. The bike course uses two-lane roads that are described as recently reconstructed; sheriffs will be present for safety. The run follows a flat trail course. Packet pickup is at Capital City Health Club, 1280 Montana Ave, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Saturday (location and time provided). A virtual option is offered for most distances; virtual entrants receive a medal and a race T-shirt is available through May 31.
Rules and awards
Headphones are not allowed on any part of the course. On the bike, standard road rules apply: do not cross double yellow lines, do not ride side by side, no drafting, pass on the left and complete passes within 15 seconds, and the overtaken cyclist must move out of the drafting zone. Participants in triathlon, duathlon, or aqua-bike events receive a post-race meal, a shirt, a finisher medal, and age-group awards through third place.
