HELENA OUTDOOR TRIATHLON (HOTri)
The event takes place at Spring Meadow Lake State Park in Helena, Montana, located about halfway between Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. Multiple race formats are offered on the same day, including Super Sprint, Sprint (solo and team), Olympic (solo and team), sprint aquabike, sprint duathlon, a 5K Fun Run, and a virtual triathlon/duathlon/aquabike option.
The swim is in a spring-fed man-made lake. The bike uses two-lane roads that were recently reconstructed and will have sheriffs present for safety. The run follows a flat, fast trail course. Headphones are not allowed anywhere on the course. On the bike participants must follow regular road rules: do not cross the double yellow, do not ride side by side, no drafting, pass on the left within 15 seconds, and the overtaken cyclist must move out of the drafting zone.
Everyone registered for the triathlon, duathlon or aquabike receives a post-race meal, a shirt, a finishers medal and age group awards to third place. The 5K Fun Run is described as an economical fundraiser and all 5K participants receive a finishers medal. A virtual option is available for $30 for any race or distance except the Fun Run; virtual participants receive a medal and a race t-shirt is available through May 31.
Packet pickup is at Capital City Health Club, 1280 Montana Ave, on the Saturday before the race from 4 pm to 6 pm, with additional pickup available Sunday morning at the venue. Net proceeds support local charities and past donations are listed as examples. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
