Event Overview
The Heaven Can Wait 5K Fun Run takes place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Colchester Cemetery on Mersea Road. The entry fee is £25, and the minimum age for participants is 13.
Course and Setting
The 5 km route uses accessible pathways through the 67-acre cemetery grounds. The cemetery opened in 1856 and features Victorian headstones, mature trees, and landscaped parkland. It is a habitat for wildlife and contains Commonwealth War Graves.
Charitable Purpose
The event raises funds for two local charities: YES Youth Enquiry Service, which supports people aged 11 to 25, and Ending Life’s Taboo, which supports adults aged 18 to 45 with life-limiting conditions.
Event Details
Participants receive a sustainably sourced wooden medal and a t-shirt. They can opt to plant a tree instead of receiving the t-shirt through the 'Trees Not Tees' option. Free car parking is available. Water stations are located at the start and finish. Toilets are available near the start line in the crematorium and at the bottom of the cemetery.
