Camuplodunum Marathon
The Camuplodunum is a long-distance running event that follows a route encircling the town of Colchester. Originally conceived in 1974 as a 25-mile course, it was updated in 2023 to cover a full marathon distance. The course features a diverse range of terrain, including field paths, woodland, sea wall sections, and riverside paths. Participants also pass prehistoric defence earthworks, a conservation valley, and various urban sections.
This is a self-navigation event where participants follow the course using a provided GPX file or written instructions. To support runners, fully stocked aid stations and checkpoints are positioned approximately every 10 km along the route. The event has a total cut-off time of 7.5 hours. As a cupless race, participants are required to bring their own hydration equipment, though collapsible speedcups are available for purchase.
The event starts and finishes at Bannatyne Gym & Spa Kingsford Park. The venue provides free parking and toilet facilities for all attendees. On-site bars and restaurants are available for participants and spectators throughout the day. Entry options are flexible, allowing runners to choose a basic registration or add a medal and t-shirt for an additional fee at the time of registration.
