Camuplodunum
The Camuplodunum route encircles the town of Colchester, known as Camulodunum in Roman times. Originally conceived in 1974 as a long distance boundary route, the current event covers a total distance of 28.6 miles and passes through a variety of surfaces and landscapes including field paths, woodland, sea wall, prehistoric defence earthworks, a conservation valley, riverside and urban sections.
The event is run as a self navigation route. Navigation materials will be provided as a GPX file or written instructions. Checkpoints and fully stocked aid stations are placed at approximately every 10 km. The event is cupless so participants must provide their own cup; collapsible speedcups are available to purchase for £2.50.
The start and finish are at Bannatyne Gym & Spa, Kingsford Park, Layer Road, Colchester CO2 0HS, where free parking and toilet facilities are available for the day. Bars and restaurants at the venue will be open for runners and spectators. Entry options include a stripped back fee of £25 for the marathon without a medal or t shirt, while standard paid entries are shown from £28.50. Add ons such as medals and shirts must be selected and paid for at registration as no extras will be issued on race day.
