Headless Horseman BYU
Headless Horseman BYU is a trail running event held at Sleepy Hollow State Park in Laingsburg, Michigan (7835 E Price Rd). The course is a 4.167 mile loop with 151 ft of elevation gain that passes through prairie grass fields, hardwood forest, stands of pine trees, and along a river. The park covers over 2,600 acres.
The event offers two formats. One is a single-loop option that follows the full 4.167 mile course. The other is a 12 hour Back Yard Ultra run using last-person-standing rules: runners start each loop at the top of the hour and must complete the loop within that hour to continue. Completing the full 12 hours equals about 50 miles. A headlamp is required for the final laps after sunset.
Race timing is electronic with chip timing and live results; lap times are recorded for the Back Yard Ultra. All entrants receive event apparel and a patch; swag is guaranteed for entries made by October 24 and available while supplies last after that date. Awards include gift cards for overall finishers and age-group prizes, and a trophy for the overall Back Yard Ultra winner. An aid station is located near the start/finish; there is no aid station on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
