Headless Horseman BYU
The Headless Horseman BYU takes place on Saturday, October 31, 2026 in Laingsburg, Michigan at Sleepy Hollow State Park. The event is held on a measured loop course that runs through park terrain and natural features.
The course is a 4.167 mile loop with 151 feet of elevation gain. The route passes prairie grass fields, hardwood forest, stands of pine trees, and follows a river within the park, which contains over 2,600 acres.
Two event options are offered:
- 4.167 miles single loop option.
- 12 hour Back Yard Ultra where runners complete repeated 4.167 mile laps; completing 12 hours equals about 50 miles.
The 12 hour format uses last-man-standing rules: runners start each lap at the top of the hour and must complete the lap within that hour to continue. A headlamp is required for the later laps. Timing is electronic; the single loop is chip timed with live results and the 12 hour event records each lap by chip.
Logistics and participant provisions include event shirts, patches, and stickers for entries, with swag guaranteed for entries received by October 24. There are awards for overall and age group finishers, including Playmakers gift cards and trophies for the 12 hour overall winner. There is no aid station on course; one aid station near the start and finish offers snacks and drinks. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
