Headless Horseman BYU
Headless Horseman BYU is a trail running event held at Sleepy Hollow State Park in Laingsburg, Michigan. The course uses a 4.167 mile loop that passes prairie grass fields, hardwood forest, stands of pine, and a river winding through the woods. The loop has about 151 ft of elevation gain and the park encompasses over 2,600 acres.
The event offers two options:
- 4.167 mile single loop
- 12 hour Back Yard Ultra, approximately 50 miles if completed
The 12 hour option follows Backyard Ultra rules with last-person-standing format. Runners begin each loop at the top of the hour and must finish the lap within that hour; failing to report for the next hour eliminates a runner. A headlamp is required for the later laps around sunset.
Timing and support are provided: the event is chip timed with live results and each lap is recorded for the 12 hour option. There is no aid station on the course; one aid station near the start/finish will offer snacks and drinks. Packet pickup is available on race morning. All entries receive event swag including a T-shirt and patch; finishers in the 12 hour event may receive a special finisher item.
Awards include Playmakers gift cards for top finishers and a Headless Horseman trophy for the overall 12 hour winner. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
