Haunted Jaunt 5K & 10K Trail Races

The Haunted Jaunt is a nighttime trail event on the Lawrence River Trails near the levee gate at N 8th Street and Oak Street in Lawrence, KS. The route may include themed spooky elements and participants may wear costumes while considering the challenges of running on trails at night.

Distances

  • 5K one loop of the 5K Loop route
  • 10K two loops of the 5K Loop route

The course is relatively flat singletrack with a few short hills, flowy sections, and only a few roots or rocks. The course is non-certified and actual GPS distances may read slightly different from 5K or 10K. Trails are not suitable for strollers.

Aid stations on course will offer water, electrolytes, energy snacks, and fruit. A small aid station is located near the 5K turnaround; 10K participants will pass that station each loop and have additional access at the trailhead before their second loop. Runners are encouraged to bring reusable hydration bottles or cups; a limited supply of cups will be available.

All participants must carry a personal light source such as a headlamp, waistlight, or flashlight. Participants must be at least 12 years old; children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult on course, and 14- and 15-year-olds must have an adult present at the event. Due to narrow trails, dogs are asked to stay home for this race.

All finishers receive a wooden finisher medal. Awards are given for 1st place overall and 1st place masters in each gender for both distances. Registrants by October 10 receive a race shirt; extras may be available on race day on a first come, first served basis. If trails are unsafe, an alternate packed-gravel levee route may be used. Parking near the start is limited; a public lot near the Kansas River bridge at N 2nd Street and Locust Street is an option with about a one mile levee walk for warm-up or cool-down.
