Event Overview

The Hardmoors 26.2: Goathland is a winter trail running event offering three distances. It is scheduled for Saturday, 7 November 2026. The event includes a trail marathon (approx. 27 miles), a half marathon (16 miles), and a trail 10k (7.5 miles). The total ascent for these distances is 3205 feet, 2100 feet, and 1100 feet respectively.

Location and Venue

The event starts and finishes at Goathland Village Hall in Goathland, Whitby (YO22 5JS). Parking is available in the village public car park and two private car parks, with fees to be confirmed.

Event Rules and Requirements

The courses are not taped or signed. Competitors must navigate using a printed map and route description, which are provided for download. It is the runner's responsibility to print and carry these. The marathon and half marathon routes for 2026 may be changed from the 2025 versions, pending forestry work.

There is a strict compulsory kit list for all distances due to the potential for hostile winter conditions. Required items include a waterproof jacket with taped seams, hat, gloves, whistle, spare base layer, survival bag, foil blanket, and printed map/description. Marathon runners must also carry a head torch and 500ml of water. Failure to carry mandatory kit can result in disqualification.

Registration and Fees

The entry limit is 300 runners across all distances. Entry fees include a £1 donation to the Cleveland Way National Trail.

  • Trail Marathon: £49 for UKA-attached runners, £51 unattached.
  • Half Marathon: £36 for UKA-attached, £38 unattached.
  • Trail 10k: £28 for UKA-attached, £30 unattached.

A t-shirt can be added for £10. Entries open for general registration on 23 November 2025 and close on 23 October 2026. The event operates a "cupless" policy; runners must bring their own cup for checkpoint and finish line drinks.
