Event overview
The Hamsterley Winter Trails 1/2 and 10k takes place on 10 January 2026 at Hamsterley Forest Cafe, Hamsterley Forest, Bishop Auckland, County Durham DL13 3NL. The event is organised by Greener Miles Running. Distances offered include:

Entries are open from 25 January 2025 and close on 6 January 2026. The minimum age for entry is 16 as of the event date. Entry fees are: Half Marathon £30 (affiliated) / £32 (unaffiliated); 10k £23 (affiliated) / £25 (unaffiliated). Finishers receive event items including a bespoke mug, a packet of mixed wild flower seeds, hot soup and a roll, and free downloadable event pictures.
Course, facilities and safety
The route starts and finishes at the visitor centre at the main car park and follows well marked footpaths, forest trails and woodland tracks with views of the valley and surrounding forest. Terrain is a mixture of hard packed gravel, single twisting dirt tracks and occasional muddy bridleway. There will be a race HQ with toilets, medical support on course, and water, gels and sweets provided at mile 4, mile 9 and the finish area. The organiser operates eco-friendly measures such as no disposable plastic cups and a collection of pre-loved running kit. A mandatory kit list applies due to likely low temperatures; the organiser also advises hat and gloves, waterproof jacket and trousers, and an emergency blanket.
