Event overview
The Hamilton Island Hilly Half Marathon is a trail running event on Hamilton Island in the Great Barrier Reef. The full course is approximately 24 km and follows fire trails and walking tracks through the island’s undulating interior. The route includes varied terrain with uphill and downhill sections and uses a mix of new and existing trails. The event is scheduled for early May and includes separate junior races on a flatter course.
Race details
Entry options include individual, team relay and junior entries. Standard entry fees listed are $135 per individual, $85 per team member (for 2 or 3 person teams) and $60 per junior. Minimum ages are: individuals 16 years and over, team members 14 years and over, juniors 4 to 15 years. Competitive categories include a Full Length Individual Open (24 km), individual age groups (Under 30, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+), and Open Male, Open Female and Open Mixed relay classes. Junior race distances are offered as:

- 500 m
Race pack collection takes place the day before and on race day at the Beach Pavilion. Competitors may use free Cruise Whitsundays transfers between Shute Harbour and Hamilton Island Marina; travel companions receive a 50% discount for a limited allocation. Race rules include disqualification for taking shortcuts and only one earphone may be worn when using an mp3 device. Cash prizes and products for individual and team relays will be announced at the event. Presentations are held at the Beach Pavilion on race day.
