Great Whitehaven Beach Run
The Great Whitehaven Beach Run is an endurance event held in June on Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsundays. Races take place on the beach surface and include multiple distances for adults and juniors. Competitors and spectators are transported to Whitehaven Beach by chartered ferry as part of event arrangements; spectator tickets must be purchased with or added to registration where available. Presentations and medals for junior distances are held on Whitehaven Beach after the races.

Entry, categories and rules
Entry fees (listed for the event year given) are: 21.1 km $150, 10 km $150, 5 km $150, junior 1.5 km $65, junior 500 m $65, spectator $75. Online registrations close in mid-June unless sold out; late entry options are available at race kit collection for those staying on Hamilton Island. Race kit collection is held at the Reef Lounge, Reef View Hotel, with check-in procedures for competitors travelling from Airlie Beach via the Cruise Whitsundays terminal.
Two main competition categories are offered: Individual Open (no qualification required; open prizes to first three across the line) and Individual Age Group (age as at the event date; categories subject to minimum entries). Minimum ages are specified per distance. Rules note that taking shortcuts will result in disqualification, only one earphone is permitted if using an iPod, and use of shoes is optional. Competitors must ensure they are sufficiently trained and medically capable of completing their chosen distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
