Tewkesbury Running Club stages the Guy Fawkes 5, a chip timed 5 mile road race on mostly flat country lanes with very little traffic. Race headquarters and registration are at Tewkesbury Sports Hall, Ashchurch Road, Tewkesbury GL20 8DF, where race numbers, timing chips, results, presentations and medal collection are located. Changing rooms, toilets, first aid and supervised bag storage are available at the sports hall.
The course is described as a "frying pan" shape run largely on roads and wide footpaths. Runners should keep to the left; marshals will be positioned at key sections and signage and mile markers will be in place. The route crosses the M5 twice, which provides the only notable inclines, and includes a sequence of marshalled road crossings with kerbs. Timing uses start and finish mats; timing chips must be removed and dropped in collection buckets after the race.
The event is held under UKA rules and headphones are not permitted on the public roads used by the course. The course is not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies because of surface and recent road changes; participants who may need assistance are asked to enquire in advance.
Parking is limited at the school with additional parking on nearby business car parks, at Morrisons and at the Cotswold Designer Outlet car park. Onsite catering offers drinks, hot rolls and soups, and the sports hall provides mainly homemade complimentary cakes with an optional charity donation. Prizes include overall trophies, 1st to 3rd in male and female, five year age categories and a team prize. The event supports Goals Beyond Grass, registered charity number 1167624.
