About the race
The Groovy Kinder Love is a fell-racing event in the Peak District, England, held on 5 September 2026 with two linked courses that start together and diverge on the hill. There are two race options run under FRA regulations:
- Groovy Kinder Love (Category AL): 24.5 km, 1270 m climb
- Groovy Baby Love (Category BM): 15.5 km, 650 m climb
Both races use Hayfield as the venue, with registration at the Scout Hut on Swallow House Lane (grid ref 034871). A single entry covers either route; competitors choose which route at race number allocation. The overall entry limit is 200. Pre-entry is available for a fee of £10 and entry on the day is possible for £12. Minimum age is 18.
The course runs across open moorland and Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is mostly unmarked, so map-and-compass navigation is required. The route splits at the Pennine Way junction/Top of Jacob’s Ladder, at Broad Clough ford, and at the bottom of Sandy Heys/Benny’s Bridge, with a 3 hour 30 minute cut-off at Sandy Heys. Competitors are responsible for their own navigation and for following checkpoint instructions.
There will be a 100% kit check. Mandatory kit includes a waterproof whole-body cover with taped seams plus hat and gloves, compass and suitable map, whistle, and emergency food. Registration is at the Scout Hut, about a ten-minute walk from the start; a carpark is provided but cars are parked at owners’ risk. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
