Grindfest Progression Run
Grindfest is a progression running event held at the Pettit National Ice Center in Milwaukee, WI on 12/26/2026. The race takes place on an indoor 443 m track and follows a predetermined pace chart that increases the required pace every three laps.
All runners start together at the assigned pace and the speed increases in stages until a single runner remains. The event provides a lap pace chart with progressive targets for each stage. Officials may call a three-lap Final Grind if the pack cannot increase the pace further; remaining places are awarded as in a typical track race.
Race protocol includes a set of conduct rules: athletes must remain in contact with the main pack, avoid touching hair, face, or legs, and may "yo-yo" back to the pack but are removed from contention after three such incidents. Runners who leave the pack or stop should report to the start area so their finishing position can be recorded. A short dash to use the restroom is permitted if the runner rejoins the pack on the following lap. Leaders who wish to contend for the overall title must lead or share the lead for at least two laps, and officials may warn or disqualify runners for laps run significantly faster than the assigned pace.
Teams may enter either as school-affiliated groups with unlimited participants or as non-school teams limited to six athletes. Team scoring uses the top three finishers with fewest points winning. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
