Event overview

The 2026 Greater Sacramento Area Polar Plunge & Runs takes place on March 7, 2026, at Granite Bay Main Beach (Folsom Lake), 8099 Douglas Boulevard, Granite Bay, CA 95746. The event is organized to raise funds for Special Olympics Northern California and its sports, health and education programs for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Participants may choose to take part in the plunge into the water or register as a non-plunger.

Race details

  • 1 Mile fun run/walk

The 5K is a timed trail course and awards are presented to the top three runners in each age category. All finishers receive a commemorative or custom medal. Participants can choose to do the run only or both the run and the Polar Plunge.

Fundraising and incentives

All Plungers and Chickens must raise a minimum of $125 to participate. Cool School participants must raise $50 to join the challenge, and $125 is required to receive the event t-shirt and lunch. Funds raised support Special Olympics NorCal programs that are offered to athletes at no cost. Registration categories and published entry fees include a 5K entry and a 1 Mile entry.
