AJ Bell Great South Run
The AJ Bell Great South Run is a 10-mile road running event held in Portsmouth. The course starts and finishes on the north end of Avenue De Caen and runs along the seafront, passing city landmarks including HMS Victory. The route is described as fairly flat and fast. Music and other entertainment are provided along the course and there are sea views on sections of the route. Participants in the 10-mile race must be aged 16 or over on the day of the event.
Race organisation and services
Waves are used for the start and are allocated based on estimated finish time; runners may move to a slower wave by assembling with a later wave but cannot move to a faster wave. Race numbers include the timing chip and are normally posted 1-2 weeks before the event; last-minute or overseas entries need to collect their number from the event information point. Baggage buses are provided in a marquee on Castle Field; runners must attach the baggage label from their race number and use the race number to collect bags after the finish. Finishers receive a medal, a finisher’s t-shirt option, and a finisher’s bag. Official event photos are available after the race and a free event-day tracking app provides live tracking and results.
