AJ Bell Great South Run
The AJ Bell Great South Run is a 10 mile road race held in Portsmouth. The course starts and finishes on the north end of Avenue De Caen and runs along the seafront, passing city landmarks including HMS Victory. The route is described as fairly flat and offers sea views.
Participants must be aged 16 or over on the day for the 10 mile event. A booking fee of £3.00 per entry is applied at checkout. Race numbers are personalised with the runner’s name and include a timing chip; these are posted from about four weeks before the event. Last minute or overseas entries must collect their number from the information point, which is staffed the day before and on the day of the race.
Waves are allocated by estimated time. Runners can move to a slower wave by assembling with that later wave but cannot move to a faster wave. Baggage buses operate from a marquee on Castle Field; runners must attach the baggage label from their race number and use their race number to collect their bag after the race. Filming, streaming, or photography is not allowed within the naval base.
The event offers an app for event day tracking, split times and results, official event day photos for purchase, a finisher medal, an optional finishers t shirt and a finisher bag.
