Event overview
The AJ Bell Great South Run is a road running event held over 10 miles on the south coast. The course starts and finishes on the north end of Avenue De Caen in Portsmouth. The route includes sea-facing sections and passes city landmarks such as HMS Victory. Waves are used for the start; the event lists Orange, Green and Pink waves. Participants for the 10-mile race must be aged 16 or over on the day.
Race details and services
The course is described as fairly flat and fast. Race numbers include a timing chip and are posted out about 1-2 weeks before the event; last-minute or overseas entries must collect their race number from the information point. Baggage buses are provided in a marquee on Castle Field; runners use their race number to collect bags after the finish. Waves are allocated by estimated time and runners may move to a slower wave on the day but cannot move to a faster wave.
Event-day tracking and live results are available through a free Great Run Series app, and official event photos are available to view and purchase after the race. Finishers receive a medal, a finisher’s bag and the option to select a finisher t-shirt; entrants who forgo the finisher tee can trigger a donation to the National Trust Woodlands Appeal. Free training plans and additional participant information are provided in the event materials.

The series has an official charity partner, Alzheimer’s Society, and a wide list of charity places is available, including Cancer Research UK, Bobby Moore Fund, British Heart Foundation, Macmillan and many local and national charities. Entry pricing and limited early offers are used for registration, and a booking fee is applied at checkout. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
