AJ Bell Great North 5k
The AJ Bell Great North 5k is a short road race on the Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside that acts as a curtain-raiser for the weekend of events that includes the AJ Bell Great North Run. The course starts and finishes on the Quayside and crosses both the Swing Bridge and the Millennium Bridge. The route is described as fast and flat.
Every finisher receives a medal and there is an optional event-day t-shirt. Photos from the event are available, and entrants receive a personalised race number containing a timing chip; race numbers are posted out about one to two weeks before the event. Baggage facilities are provided in the Live Theatre building and runners should attach the baggage label from their race number to their bag.
The event provides a finishers' pack and access to partner discounts through the event rewards platform. Free training plans and route-specific training advice are available. An event village near the start and finish offers music and food vendors. Temporary road closures, car park closures, and parking restrictions apply around the route, so alternative travel and public transport options are recommended.
