AJ Bell Great North 5k
The AJ Bell Great North 5k takes place on 11 September 2026 and serves as the curtain raiser to the North East’s Great North Run weekend. The event is a city centre 5k road race around Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside with a route that crosses the Swing Bridge and Millennium Bridge and finishes on a grandstand by the River Tyne.
Finishers receive a bespoke medal and can opt to purchase an event t shirt. Photographs are available from event photographers and race numbers are personalised with each runner’s name. The event offers access to runner only discounts through a rewards platform and provides free training plans and support in the lead up to race day.
Entries are open to runners aged 14 and over on the day of the event. Entry prices are listed as Saver £27 and Final £30, with a booking fee of £3 applied at checkout. Temporary road closures, car park closures and parking restrictions will be in place around the course; the organiser recommends allowing extra time for travel and considering public transport options.
The course layout may be subject to change and the organiser notes there is a small alteration to the route for the current year while retaining key features of the Quayside course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
