Event overview
The AJ Bell Great North 5k takes place on 11 September 2026 on Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside. The event is the curtain-raiser for the AJ Bell Great North Run weekend. The race distance is 5k. Entries are open and are for runners aged 14 and over on the day of the event. Earlybird entry is listed at £26 and the standard entry fee at £30. A booking fee of £3 is applied at checkout. The course may be subject to change.
Course and logistics
The route runs around the Quayside, crossing the Swing Bridge and the Millennium Bridge, and finishes at a grandstand on the Tyne. Temporary road closures and parking restrictions are in place in areas around the Quayside, South Shore Road, Swing Bridge and Pipewellgate on event day. Organisers note attendees should allow time for travel. Public transport options are available in the area.
What participants receive
Every finisher receives a medal. An optional event-day finisher t-shirt is available; runners who forgo the t-shirt contribute to a donation to the National Trust Woodlands Appeal. Official event photos are available after the race. Participants also receive a personalised race number, access to training plans and support before the event, and exclusive runner discounts valid for 12 months.
