Event overview
The AJ Bell Great North 5k takes place on Friday 11 September 2026 and is a 5k road run held on Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside. It serves as the curtain-raiser to the AJ Bell Great North Run weekend. Entries are open for runners aged 14 and over on the day. Entry fees listed are Earlybird £26 and Final £30, with a booking fee of £3 applied at checkout. The Earlybird offer is for a limited time.
Route and logistics
The course runs around the Quayside and crosses the Swing Bridge and the Millennium Bridge, finishing on the Tyne at a grandstand finish. Organisers note a small change to the route for this year and advise that the course may be subject to change. Temporary road closures, car park closures and parking restrictions will be in place on event day, and public transport is recommended to plan journeys accordingly.
Participant services
Every finisher receives a medal and a finishers' pack. An optional event-day t-shirt is available; runners who forgo the t-shirt will prompt a donation by the organiser to the National Trust Woodlands Appeal.
