AJ Bell Great North 5k : 11 September 2026
The AJ Bell Great North 5k is a 5k road race held on the Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside as the curtain-raiser to the Great North Run weekend. The course crosses the Swing Bridge and the Millennium Bridge and finishes on a grandstand on the Tyne. Organisers note a small route change for 2026 while retaining the main riverside sections and landmark views. Entries are open to runners aged 14 and over on the day of the event.
Entry, what’s included and logistics
Entry prices are listed as Earlybird £26 and Final £30, with a booking fee of £3 per entry. The Earlybird offer ends on 15 December. Every finisher receives a medal; an event-day finisher t-shirt is available as an optional extra. Runners who opt out of the t-shirt option will trigger a donation to the National Trust Woodlands Appeal. Official event photos will be available and entrants receive access to exclusive runner discounts for 12 months. The event provides free training plans and support, and race numbers can be personalised with a name. Temporary road closures, car park closures and parking restrictions will be in place for the event and public transport options are available for travel to the Quayside.
