Rock River Canyon
The Rock River Canyon is a trail running event located south of Munising, Michigan. The course utilizes the high country and remote river valleys of the Upper Peninsula, primarily following the North Country Trail through the Rock River Canyon Wilderness. The event has an entrant limit of 100 runners and operates with an 8.5-hour time limit.
Participants can choose from two distinct distances:
- 50K (approximately 31 miles)
- 27K (approximately 16.5 miles)
The 50K route is an out-and-back course starting from the Valley Spur Lodge. It consists of 26 miles of single-track trail and 5 miles of dirt forest road. This distance features a total elevation change of approximately 2690 feet. The 27K course is 100% single-track trail, with runners turning around at the AuTrain aid station.
The course includes six aid stations spaced between 4 and 6 miles apart. These stations provide water, electrolyte drinks, energy gels, and electrolytes. Runners are required to carry a 20-ounce water bottle or a functional hydration system for refills. Aid stations are accessible by vehicle for spectators.
The event provides a gear storage area at the start and finish line. Finishers receive a commemorative award and maple syrup from Mass Farms. Podium awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in each distance, and top three finishers in each age group are recognized.
