Rock River Canyon 50K Trail Run, Munising MI
The Rock River Canyon event on June 6, 2026, is a trail running event organized by Great Lakes Endurance near Munising, Michigan. The race uses Valley Spur Lodge as the start and finish area and follows a rarely used section of the North Country Trail into the Rock River Canyon Wilderness.
The main course is an out and back route that combines single track and dirt forest road. The full distance covers approximately 31 miles with 26 miles of single track and 5 miles of dirt forest road, and about 4,390 feet of total ascent and descent. Organizers describe the terrain as mostly runnable and moderate with frequent ascents and descents. A second event is offered at a shorter 27 kilometer distance that is 100 percent single track and turns around at the AuTrain aid station.
There are six aid stations spaced roughly 4 to 5.4 miles apart and accessible by vehicle. Runners must carry a 20 ounce water bottle or a refillable hydration system. Aid stations provide cold water, an electrolyte drink, and packaged nutrition including energy gels and electrolyte capsules.
Logistics include packet pickup at Valley Spur Lodge the evening before and race morning, on course bus transportation is included in race fees, and parking is available at Valley Spur. Participant limit is 100 and there is an overall time limit of 8.5 hours.
Awards are given to top finishers in age groups and all finishers receive a custom hardwood medallion. Dogs are allowed at the start and finish area but not on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
