Rock River Canyon Trail Runs
The Rock River Canyon Trail Runs take place in the backcountry of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, south of Munising. The event utilizes the Valley Spur Lodge as the central hub for the start and finish. The routes traverse high country and remote river valleys, utilizing sections of the North Country Trail and the Rock River Canyon Wilderness.
Participants can choose from two distances:
- 50 km
- 27 km
The 50 km course is an out and back route consisting of 26 miles of single track trail and 5 miles of dirt forest road. It features a total elevation change of 4390 feet, characterized by frequent ascents and descents over non-technical terrain. The 27 km distance is composed entirely of single track trail, with runners turning around at the second aid station.
There are six aid stations positioned along the 50 km course at intervals ranging from 4 to 6.1 miles. These stations provide water, electrolyte drinks, energy gels, and electrolytes. Runners are required to carry a 20oz bottle or a hydration system for refills. The event has a 100-person participant limit and an 8.5-hour time limit for the 50 km distance. Finisher awards include custom hardwood engraved medallions, with maple syrup awarded to the top three finishers in each age group. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
