About the race
Rock River Canyon is a trail running event held June 26, 2027, at Valley Spur Lodge near Munising, Michigan. The program offers two out-and-back distances that follow a section of the North Country Trail into the Rock River Canyon Wilderness and return to Valley Spur.
Distances
- 50K - about 31 miles; mix of single track and dirt forest road.
- 27K - about 16.5 miles; 100% single track with turnaround at AuTrain aid station.
The 50K route includes approximately 26 miles of single track and 5 miles of dirt forest road, with a listed total elevation gain of 2,690 feet. The 27K lists 414 feet of total elevation gain. Aid stations are vehicle-accessible and placed roughly 4 to 5.4 miles apart on the 50K (four stations on the 27K). Runners must carry a 20 oz water bottle or functional hydration system; stations provide cold water, electrolyte drink (Gnarly Fuel2O), and snacks including bananas, chips, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and gluten free options.
Additional event details include limited parking at Valley Spur this year with on-site drop bag tent storage, an entrant limit of 100 runners, live race tracking on race day, and commemorative finisher awards plus podium awards for the top three male and female finishers in each distance.
