Great Hameldon Hill Race
The Great Hameldon Hill Race is an established fell running event organized by Clayton-le-Moors Harriers. Originally founded in 1979, the race takes place on Hameldon Hill and is held under UKA rules and registered with the FRA.
The senior event consists of a 6 mile (approximately 9.6 km) course with a total ascent of 1109 feet. The race is classified as a Category BS fell race. The route is partially marked, and participants are required to bring waterproof whole body cover, which may be mandatory to carry depending on weather conditions on the day of the event. Registration is open to runners with a minimum age of 16 years. This race is recognized as part of the Pendle and Burnley Grand Prix.
Junior Races
A series of junior races is held for children between the ages of 6 and 18. The junior distances are organized into three specific categories:
- U8 and U10: A course of up to 1 km, consisting of two laps of the school field.
- U12 and U14: A 2 km route located on the paths below the coppice.
- U16 and U18: A 3 km route that extends above the coppice area.
All junior finishers receive a goody bag, and medals are awarded to the first three boys and girls in each age category. Race numbers for both senior and junior participants are collected from the shelter outside The Peel Park Hotel on Turkey Street in Accrington.
