Event Overview

The Great Hameldon Hill Race is a fell running event organized by Clayton-le-Moors Harriers. The 2026 edition takes place on Sunday, 3rd May, with a start time of 12:00 noon. The senior race is categorized as BS and covers a distance of approximately 6 miles with 1109 feet of ascent. The minimum age for the senior race is 16 years on race day.

Course and Rules

The event is held under UK Athletics rules and is registered with the Fell Runners Association (FRA). The route is partially marked, and a course map is provided for reference. All runners must bring waterproof whole body cover to the event; a decision on mandatory kit will be made on the day.

Junior Races

Separate junior races are held on the same day, starting from 10:30 am. The races are open to children under 17 years of age on 31st December 2024, with a minimum age of 6 years on race day. Distances comply with FRA rules and are divided by age category:

  • First race (U7 and U9): Maximum distance of 1 km on the school field.
  • Second race (U11 and U13): A 2 km route on paths below the coppice.
  • Third race (U15 and U17): A 3 km route going above the coppice. All junior finishers receive a goody bag, and medals are awarded to the first three boys and girls in each age category.
