About the race
The 2027 Great Falls 8k and 16k takes place on February 28, 2027 at Great Falls Maryland (11710 MacArthur Blvd). The event offers two measured distances:
- 8k
- 16k
Both routes run along the Potomac River on the C&O Canal path. The course is an out-and-back on a light gravel dirt road with minimal elevation change. For this edition, runners will travel north on the C&O Canal path.
The race is chip timed and participants receive a finisher's medal and a technical event shirt. A virtual race option is available for those who cannot attend in person. Walkers are welcome. Race registration does not include the park entrance fee.
There are multiple aid stations along each course: seven water stations are planned for the 16k at approximate mile markers, and four water stations are planned for the 8k at approximate mile markers. Gatorade will be available at some stations. Restroom facilities are located near the roundabout.
Packet pickup is available at the event. There will be no on-site race registration. Live results will be posted on Athlinks and a QR code will provide immediate access at the finish; final results with series points will be posted on the following Monday.
Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to first and second place male and female in standard age categories; overall top three are not eligible for age-group awards.
Points from this event count toward the Year-Long 5k, 10k, Endurance, and Back of the Pack Series and toward the Winter Series. Photos taken by staff will be posted after the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
