2027 Great Falls 8k & 16k
This event takes place on February 28, 2027, at Great Falls Maryland (11710 MacArthur Blvd). It offers two measured distances that run along the Potomac River and use the C&O Canal towpath.
- 8k: Out-and-back on the C&O Canal path alongside the Potomac River.
- 16k: Out-and-back on the C&O Canal path, covering a longer section of trail.
The course is on the C&O Canal towpath, a light gravel dirt road with minimal elevation change. Runners will use sections of the path that include northbound segments and post-race access to nearby waterfalls is noted.
Registration details in the event materials note that the park entrance fee is not included and that there is a virtual race option for participants who cannot attend in person. Walkers are permitted. There will be no on-site race registration.
Participants receive a finisher medal, a technical event shirt, and chip timing. Packet pickup is available at the event. Live race results will be posted online and race participants can access results via a race QR code. Post-race photos taken by staff are distributed on the organizer's social media channels.
Awards are presented for the top three men and top three women overall, plus age-group awards in the following brackets: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 plus. Top three overall finishers are not eligible for age-group awards. Points from this event count toward the Year-Long 5k, 10k, Endurance, and Back of the Pack series, and toward the Winter Series.
