About the race
The AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run offers two city-centre road races with official support services and event-day facilities. The races start at Centenary Square on Broad Street and finish along Jennens Road into Aston University’s event village.
Distances:
- Half marathon
- 10k
Both routes pass central Birmingham landmarks including the Jewellery Quarter, St Paul’s Square, the Mailbox, Grand Central at New Street Station, St Martin’s Church, Southside and Digbeth. Half marathon runners continue into south Birmingham via Cannon Hill Park, Selly Park and around Edgbaston Stadium before rejoining the 10k course for the finish. On-course entertainment includes music and a finish-line DJ; the entertainment map also shows hydration, shower and toilet locations.
Practical arrangements include baggage buses near the start, a race number that contains a timing chip (posted from about four weeks before the event), and an information point for last-minute or overseas collection. Waves are allocated by estimated time; participants may move to a slower wave but not a faster one. Minimum entry ages are 15 for the 10k and 17 for the half marathon. An event-day app provides live tracking, split times, results and official photos. Finishers receive a medal, an optional finishers t-shirt and a post-run refreshment.
