The AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run
The Great Birmingham Run is a major annual sporting event in the Midlands, featuring both a 10 km and a half marathon distance. The event takes place in the heart of Birmingham, with both courses starting at Centenary Square on Broad Street. Participants finish on Jennens Road, where an event village is established at Aston University.
The routes are designed to showcase several city landmarks, including:
- The Jewellery Quarter
- St Paul’s Square
- The Mailbox
- Grand Central at New Street Station
- St Martin’s Church
- The Selfridges Building
The 10 km course is open to runners aged 15 and over, while the half marathon requires participants to be at least 17 years old on race day. The terrain for both distances includes a mix of inclines and declines, though the second half of each route features sections of downward running.
Registered participants receive a race number with a timing chip via mail approximately four weeks before the event. On the day, baggage buses are available near the start line for storage. Finishers are rewarded with a medal, an exclusive t-shirt, and a souvenir treat. Support services include a tracking app for spectators, free training plans, and medical teams stationed along the course.
The event frequently supports various charitable organizations. Many participants run to raise funds for causes such as Alzheimer’s Society, Cancer Research UK, and Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
