Event Overview
The Good Life Race is a community running event held at Oak Park and River Forest High School in Oak Park, Illinois. The event features road races on flat courses designed for various age groups and participation levels. The athletic program is supported by various community partners including the Oak Park Public Library, the Park District of Oak Park, and local music groups.
Race Categories
Participants can choose from three distinct distances:
- 5K: A 5 km (3.1 miles) run or walk open to all ages.
- Youth Mile: A 1 mile run or walk for participants aged 12 and under.
- Junior Dash: A 0.1 mile run or walk covering one block for children aged 6 and under.
Course Details
The race environment consists of flat, fast road courses. Both the 5K and the Youth Mile are USATF certified, ensuring precise measurement of the distances. The 5K has a maximum time limit of 75 minutes, and participants are organized at the start by their expected pace. Strollers are not permitted on the 5K course. The Youth Mile has a 20-minute time limit.
Amenities and Entertainment
The event grounds feature live entertainment from the Oak Park and River Forest High School drumline, the Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School band, and the Jesse White Tumblers. All participants registered for the 5K and Youth Mile receive a tri-blend t-shirt. The Junior Dash is conducted in four separate waves organized by the age or grade of the children.
