UNC CPALS 5th Annual Golden Heroes 5k
The Golden Heroes 5k is a running event organized by CPALS, a student organization at UNC-Chapel Hill that supports pediatric hematology and oncology patients at UNC Hospitals. The event title refers to the gold color of the childhood cancer awareness ribbon. All proceeds from the race contribute to the CPALS Scholarship Program and the CPALS Cares Grant, which provide financial assistance for college expenses and immediate family needs via gift cards.
Participants will run a single distance:
- 5k
The race begins at Bynum Circle, located near the Old Well in Chapel Hill. Registration for the event includes a donation directly to the hospital clinic. Instead of traditional event shirts, participants receive food on the day of the race, specifically bagels provided by Brandwein's Bagels. Awards in the form of gift certificates are presented to the top three male and female finishers.
Administrative logistics include a packet pick-up held on April 18th at Fleet Feet Carrboro. While online registration is available until shortly before the event, the organizers also provide options for same-day and walk-in registration at the venue.
