Sunset Scramble Evening Running Event
The Sunset Scramble takes place at Fred G. Bond Metro Park in Cary, North Carolina. This evening event is organized by the nonprofit Fit & Able Productions and utilizes a simplified 5 km course layout to ensure safety as daylight fades. Participants can choose to run, walk, roll, or stroll through the park.
The event features a variety of distances suitable for different goals:
- 15 km (3 laps of the course)
- 10 km (2 laps of the course)
- 5 km (single lap)
- Kids in Strollers (for ages 4 and under)
Increased distance races consist of multiple laps of the central 5 km course. A notable feature of this event is that participants in the 10 km and 15 km categories receive official split times for every completed lap. Runners have a total of two hours to complete their chosen distance before the course officially closes. If a participant cannot finish their registered distance within the time limit, they are automatically transferred to the distance they successfully completed.
In addition to the in-person races, virtual options are available for the 5 km, 10 km, and 15 km distances. Registered participants for the main distances receive a event shirt and a finishers medal. The event also includes award categories for overall top finishers, age groups, and those who set new course records. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
