God's Own Backyard Ultra Spring
The God's Own Backyard Ultra Spring is a silver-tier event in the international Backyard Ultra series held in Leeds. Based at Hunters Greave in Hawksworth, the competition follows a specific elimination format where participants run a set loop every hour. Runners must be 18 years or older to participate.
The course is a 4.167 mile (approximately 6.7 km) loop. Participants start a new lap exactly on the hour, every hour. To remain in the competition, a runner must finish the loop within the 60-minute window and be present at the starting area when the next bell sounds. Failure to complete a lap in time or being absent at the restart results in a Did Not Finish (DNF) status. The event continues until only one person remains to complete a solo loop, at which point they are declared the champion.
The route consists of several terrain types:
- 4.167 mile loop featuring canal towpaths, farmland trails, woodland trails, and tarmac paths.
The day course includes elevation gains, while a specific night yard is utilized to ensure safety by avoiding canal crossings in the dark. This night section remains on the tarmac canal towpath. Facilities at the venue include camping areas for participants and support crews, toilets, and first aid cover. The organizer provides hot and cold water, fruit, and sweets at the start/finish area.
