Event Overview
The Goat Island Games 5 Mile and 5K is an annual running event held in the historic town of Cramerton, North Carolina. Part of the Run Gaston Race Series, the event celebrates regional history and serves as an official Gaston 250 event. The competition includes two primary chip-timed distances:
- 5K
- 5 Mile
Both courses are USATF-certified. The 5K has a cutoff time of 1 hour and 5 minutes, while the 5 Mile race has a cutoff time of 1 hour and 15 minutes. Participants in the 5K are welcome to walk or run the course.
Course Layout
The races start and finish at Goat Island Park, a 30-acre site situated in the South Fork Catawba River. The scenic route guides runners through Downtown Cramerton, passing the Veterans Memorial and the state-of-the-art campus of Stuart Cramer High School. Participants will see views of the local train trestle and a public art sculpture before entering the Lakewood Neighborhood to return to the park.
Participant Information
Registered participants receive a chip-timed bib and an official race shirt, provided they register by the mid-April deadline. Awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as the top three in various age groups, which range from under 14 to over 70.
A post-race festival at Goat Island Park follows the runs, featuring music, hydration, snacks, and booths from local vendor organizations. Recovery workouts are also provided on-site. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
