NextGen United Summer Sun and Racing Fun 5K
NextGen United presents a community 5K timed run and walk on June 6, 2026 in Lincolnton, North Carolina. The event is billed as the organization’s first 5K and uses Betty G Ross Park and the adjacent local Rail Trail as its course. Distance is 3.1 miles.
The route leaves Betty G Ross Park on Motz Avenue, travels about 0.1 miles to the rail trail entrance, then continues along the rail trail. The course crosses Congress Street at Government Street, Academy Street, Sycamore Street, Pine Street, and Dixon Street. Participants cross Dixon Street, make a U-turn on the rail trail, and return to the start and finish following the same route.
Registration opens March 8, 2026 and closes June 3, 2026 with a registration fee of $20. Race day packet pick-up and registration take place at Betty G Ross Park on June 6, 2026 from 7:00 AM - 7:45 AM. There is a day before packet pick-up on June 5, 2026 from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM at the same park.
Awards are given for male and female overall, age group categories, a runner with stroller category, and a summer fun costume contest. Post-race refreshments listed by the organizer include snow cones and slushies. Proceeds support UWLC's Community Fund for local needs.
