NextGen United's Summer Sun and Racing Fun 5K
The Summer Sun and Racing Fun 5K is a community event organized by NextGen United, a teen-led group affiliated with the United Way of Lincoln County. This inaugural event serves as a fundraiser for the local Community Fund, which provides assistance for emergency crises, one-time hardships, and various programs throughout the county.
The event takes place at Betty G Ross Park in Lincolnton, North Carolina. The course utilizes the park grounds and the local Rail Trail for the following distance:
- 5k Timed Run/Walk
Participants can pick up their race packets the day before the event at Betty G Ross Park or on the morning of the run. Upon completing the course, finishers are provided with seasonal refreshments including snow cones and slushies.
The race includes a competitive element with several award categories. Recognition is given to the first place male and female runners overall. Additionally, awards are presented to the first, second, and third place finishers in both male and female divisions across multiple age groups, ranging from 14 and under to 65 and older.
