Glacier Hills Ultra 50K
Glacier Hills Ultra is a trail event held at Newton Hills State Park near Canton, SD. The races use a single loop of approximately 10K with about 850 ft of elevation gain per loop. Distances offered:
- 50K: five 10K loops
- 30K: three 10K loops
- 20K: two 10K loops
Hard time limits are set by duration: 8 hours for the 50K, 7 hours for the 30K, and 6 hours for the 20K. The course is largely single track with a mix of climbs, descents, tree roots, erosion boards, and occasional mud, dust, and horse droppings because part of the route shares horse trails. Course markings include signage, pin flags with reflective strips, tape, and volunteers.
Aid is located at the shared start/finish area so runners pass a full aid station each loop; additional water is available midloop near mile 4. Drop bags may be left on a tarp beside the aid station but must be labeled and are not actively monitored. For the longest race, parking in the horse camp area provides easier access to a vehicle for additional aid or drop items; horse camp parking is roughly half a mile from the start/finish.
Packet pickup details are to be determined. A brief pre race briefing is held at the start line before each race. Swag includes Bella Canvas hoodies with the apparel order deadline set for October 1. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
