Girls on the Run Southern Idaho Blaine County 5K Celebration
This is an end-of-season celebratory 5K (3.1 miles) held on November 7 at Swiftsure Ranch. The event marks the conclusion of the Girls on the Run season and gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. Every registered participant who completes the course receives a commemorative medal.
The course is a nature trail with packed dirt, woodchips and some loose gravel and is presented as accessible for people with disabilities. Participants may walk, run, roll or push the course at their own pace. Girls on the Run describes the event as noncompetitive and supportive; typical finish times vary among participants.
Program participants and coaches are pre-registered and attend at no charge. Additional family members and community participants may join with a suggested $10 donation; running buddies are also invited with a suggested $10 donation. All registered participants must wear a race bib. The council provides a running buddy system, conducts course monitoring and head counts, and maintains a safety plan for staff and volunteers.
Volunteers support setup, teardown, registration, course marshalling, running buddy roles, water stations, cheer stations and themed stations such as bling your bib and happy hair. Volunteers appointed through the council undergo background checks. Dogs are not allowed on the Swiftsure Ranch property. Merchandise will be available for purchase at the event.
