Legends Never Die Trail Run
The Legends Never Die event takes place in the backcountry of Sun Valley, near Ketchum, Idaho. The courses feature single track loops through forested trails, alpine terrain, and mountain vistas at high elevations. Participants pass landmarks such as the Big Wood River, Oregon Gulch, and the Oregon Fox Connector trail. The event supports various local organizations, including the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation and the Wood River Trails Coalition.
Runners can choose from the following course distances:
- Half Marathon: A 13.1 mile loop with 2,450 feet of vertical climb and a high point of 7,600 feet.
- 55 km Ultra Marathon: A 34 mile course with 6,781 feet of vertical gain reaching a peak elevation of 8,650 feet.
Aid stations are positioned along the routes, stocked with water, Tailwind, and various food items from Atkinsons Market. To manage the flow of participants on the single track trails, the event utilizes staggered starts based on the pace provided by runners during registration.
The finish line celebration includes beverages from Sawtooth Brewery, Sun Valley kombucha, and Atmos NA Beer. Participants receive free race and finisher photos provided by Smiley's Mountain Photo. A cash prize of $200 is available for winners who break existing course records, with the amount increasing each year the record stands.
