The half marathon route gains and loses about 2,450 ft and reaches a race high point of 7,600 ft. The half follows the Big Wood River and ascends on the Oregon Fox Connector trail, finishing with a loop. The ultra adds a loop around Fox Peak and extends toward Easley Hot Springs, with a total elevation gain of about 6,781 ft on forested single-track and some open alpine terrain.
Aid stations are stocked by Atkinsons Market and include Tailwind, water, and fuel. Starts are staggered and assigned by pace. Finish line provisions include beer and nonalcoholic options. Race photos are provided free to participants. The event supports local organizations including Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation, Wood River Trails Coalition, Higher Ground, and Soles4Souls. There is a $200 cash prize for winners who break a course record; the prize money jackpots annually. Weather in early October can vary and there is a chance of snow at higher elevations.
