Girls on the Run South Georgia Valdosta 5K
The Girls on the Run Valdosta 5K is an end of season, celebratory 3.1 mile event held at the Historic Lowndes County Courthouse in Valdosta, Georgia. It marks the conclusion of the program season and gives participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. Every registered participant who completes the course receives a commemorative medal.
The event is presented as a noncompetitive celebration. While some participants finish in about 25 minutes, most complete the course in 30 to 50 minutes; participants are encouraged to walk, run, roll, push or skip at their own pace. The council provides a running buddy for each program participant and requires that anyone participating in the 5K be registered. Program participants and coaches may already be registered through the council and do not need additional registration.
Safety measures include mandatory race bibs, course monitoring, regular head counts and a safety plan that trains staff and volunteers to respond to incidents. The event is accessible for people with disabilities and designated parking is available. Additional on-site features include water stations, face painting, a happy hair station and merchandise for sale. Local volunteers and national and local partners support the event; volunteers are used to help run the 5K celebration. The council also offers site-based and virtual 5K options as alternatives to the in-person event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
