9 11 Memorial 5K in Valdosta, GA
The Valdosta Fire Department will hold its 6th Annual 5K memorial run on September 5, 2026, to honor those who died on September 11, 2001, and the first responders who have died in the line of duty. The event features a patriotic theme and organizers encourage community members to line the course with decorated signs and costumes.
The course is an out-and-back route through downtown Valdosta that runs past Valdosta State University and begins near the intersection of N Valley and N Patterson. The event is USATF certified with certificate GA24032WC; this certification may allow performances to qualify for events with standards such as the Peachtree Road Race and major marathons including New York and Boston.
Packet pickup is available the day before the race at the City Annex, 300 N Lee St, Valdosta, GA, and on race day. A commemorative hooded sweatshirt will be offered for $30 with an optional $10 shipping fee; additional design and color details will be announced. Pictured items include a challenge coin, the 5K award medal, and the available hoodie.
An inter-agency competition invites local fire departments, law enforcement, military units, and other agencies to form teams; the agency team with the most participants will receive a trophy and prize package. Awards will be presented to overall and masters winners, top two finishers in specified age groups, the oldest and youngest finishers, and the most patriotic participant. All race proceeds will be donated to Valor Service Dogs, Inc. Volunteers are encouraged to support event operations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
