Event Overview

The Valdosta Fire Department organizes its 9/11 Memorial 5K. It is the 5th annual event. It takes place on September 5, 2026, and is meant to remember the events of September 11, 2001. The run honors those who lost their lives and acknowledges first responders who have passed in the line of duty.

Course Details

The course is a USATF-certified route. This certification means results can be used as qualifying times for some other major races. The start and finish are at the Lowndes County Historical Courthouse in Downtown Valdosta. The race begins at the intersection of N Valley and N Patterson streets. It is a fast out-and-back course that runs past Valdosta State University.

Schedule & Logistics

A ceremony starts at 7:45 am with speeches from officials and an Honor Guard presentation. The 5K race begins promptly at 8:00 am. Participants can pick up their race packets the day before at a specified address in Valdosta. Race day packet pick-up starts at 6:30 am.

Awards & Recognition

Awards are given to the top overall male and female finishers, top Masters, and the top two finishers in various age groups. The oldest and youngest finishers, as well as the most patriotic participant, will also be recognized. Awards are presented at 9:00 am on the courthouse lawn. There is a friendly inter-agency competition for first responder teams.

Registration & Fees

Early registration costs $25 until August 15, 2026. Late registration is $35 and race-day registration is $40. First responders can register for $10. Participants who register late may receive their event shirt after the race, and preferred sizes are not guaranteed.
