9 11 Memorial 5K (Valdosta, GA)

The Valdosta Fire Department will hold the 7th Annual 9/11 Memorial Run on September 11, 2027. The event is a patriotic remembrance for those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and for first responders who have died in the line of duty. Community members are encouraged to line the course with decorated signs or costumes.

The event features a 5K USATF-certified course (Certificate GA24032WC). The out-and-back route runs past Valdosta State University and begins near the intersection of N Valley and N Patterson in Downtown Valdosta. USATF certification means the run may qualify participants for events with qualifying standards, such as the Peachtree Road Race and major marathons like New York and Boston.

Packet pickup details are provided: pre-race pickup is on September 10 at the City Hall Annex, 300 N Lee St, Valdosta; participants should bring their email confirmation and ID and will be directed by staff holding a 5k sign. Race day packet pickup is also available on September 11. T-shirt deadline is midnight August 27, 2027; registrations after that date may still receive a shirt but a shirt cannot be guaranteed. Extra shirts and hoodies from current and past races will be available for purchase at the event on a first-come, first-served basis.

An inter-agency competition invites local agencies to form teams; a trophy and prize package will be awarded to the agency team with the most participants. Awards will go to overall and masters winners, top two finishers in age categories (11 and under; 12–14; 15–19; 20–29; 30–39; 40–49; 50–59; 60–69; 70 and over), the oldest and youngest finishers, and the most patriotic participant. Volunteers are encouraged. One hundred percent of race proceeds will be donated to Valor Service Dogs, Inc. Awards and 9/11 ceremonies will take place on the front courthouse lawn at 100 E.
