5K Celebration
Girls on the Run South Central Alabama holds an end-of-season celebratory 5K at Cloverdale Park on November 14, 2026. The event marks the conclusion of the season and gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment by completing a 3.1 mile course. Every registered program participant who completes the 5K receives a commemorative medal.
The event is presented as a community celebration rather than a competitive race; participants are encouraged to walk, run, roll, push or skip at their own pace. Designated parking and accessible course options are available to support participants with disabilities. Teams are supported by Running Buddies who complete the course alongside participants for the full distance. Running Buddy volunteers appointed through the council undergo a background check.
Safety measures include required race bibs, course monitoring with head counts, and a council safety plan that trains staff and volunteers for emergency response. All registrants complete a liability waiver. The council provides on-site activities such as face painting, Happy Hair stations, water and cheer stations, and merchandise for sale. Volunteers assist with setup and teardown, registration, course marshaling, water stations, cheer stations and running buddy roles.
Registration pricing for non-program participants is tiered, with early and general online rates and a higher race day fee. Program participants and coaches are pre-registered by the council and do not need additional registration. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
