About the race
Girls on the Run Sierras holds a seasonal celebratory 5K that marks the end of the program and gives participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. The event in 2026 takes place at University Nevada Reno, Mackey Stadium, and is presented as a noncompetitive, celebratory 5K for program participants and community members.
All program participants receive a commemorative medal. The 5K course is 3.1 miles, and participants are encouraged to walk, run, roll, push, or skip at their own pace. The event uses running buddies: a Running Buddy accompanies a participant for the entire course. Family, friends, and community members may join as Running Buddies and must register as such. Price categories listed for the event include Running Buddy, Alumnae, Sparkle Runner, and a support option labeled Happy Sleeper.
Volunteers support the event in two main roles. Course volunteers guide and motivate participants along the route. Girl Village volunteers help participants prepare with activities such as face painting, hair decorating, coloring bibs, and friendship-bracelet making.
Safety measures include required race bibs, signed liability waivers, course monitoring and head counts, a safety plan for staff and volunteers, and designated accessible parking.
