Girls on the Run Northern Virginia 5K Celebration
The event is a season-closing, celebratory 5K organized for Girls on the Run Northern Virginia program participants. It is designed to give participants a tangible sense of accomplishment; all program participants receive a commemorative medal to mark completion.
The 5K is non-competitive and untimed. The course distance is 3.1 miles and participants may walk, run, push, roll, or skip at their own pace. Program participants are automatically registered and do not need to register separately. A 5K t-shirt can be requested if registration is completed by March 31.
A Buddy Runner accompanies a program participant for the full course to provide safety and encouragement. The council manages Buddy Runner assignments and allows swaps when necessary. The event also relies on volunteers for roles such as packet pick-up, start/finish support, water stations, course marshals, cheer marshals, activity stations, bike marshal, medical tent assistance, and team packing. All volunteers appointed through the council undergo a background check.
Registration pricing follows tiered rates: Early Bird, Regular, Late, and Day-of pricing. Both community members and additional family or friends may participate if they register; waivers are required for all registrants. The 5K is intended as a celebratory community event rather than a competitive race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
